Volunteer
"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Requests for midwives halted during the pandemic as most projects were not able to accommodate international volunteers. Things are slowly getting back to "normal" and we expect more flexibility for travel requirements soon. We are currently getting requests for our partner clinic in Nairobi, Kenya in addition to requests from our affiliations in other areas of the world.
Please also consider serving in one of our ongoing projects. While we do not guarantee a placement, we are here to help you prepare so you are the best candidate for this work. Several NGOs utilize us as their first layer of recruitment as our process ensures success for all.
We also hope to reinstate our mentorship program in Nairobi, Kenya at the FreMo Birth and Health Centre in 2023. This program will offer education and clinical experience in a low resource setting with a mentor so you can learn at your own pace and prepare yourself for future work.
Step 1:
Read our Frequently Asked Questions and Welcome Letter. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with our criteria and apply to join our registry of midwives.
Step 2:
Complete all educational requirements and have certificates ready for uploading to your application. This can take 3-5 hours and is online. Prior education is acceptable if it fulfills our requirements.
Step 3:
Gather all pertinent documents: CV/resume, passport, licenses, certifications, diplomas, immunization records (including COVID-19) and complete letters of reference (we do not accept names and contact information).
Step 4:
Fill out our Volunteer Intake Form.
We will respond to your inquiry within 7 business days. Remember to check your spam and junk folder for an email from info@midwifepilgrim.org if you haven't heard from us. Don't forget to change your settings to allow our emails into your inbox.
Step 5:
Make sure you read and agree to abide by our Volunteer Declaration & Code of Conduct, Photography Practical and Ethical Considerations and Media Release Policy.
Step 6:
Once your application is complete we will schedule a follow up interview and when all is in order we will pass along your information (including your application and all the documents) with our recommendations to the requesting NGOs. Many NGOs have their own educational requirements as well and you will be expected to complete those before you are on their rosters.
We hope you join us in our mission to make the world healthier and happier one community at a time!
