Explosion in Beirut, Lebanon
August 5, 2020
A colossal explosion in the port area of Beirut took place at about 6pm local time (15:00 GMT) on Tuesday, August 5, 2020. It is believed there was a fire leading up to the explosion that flattened the harbour front and surrounding buildings.
While still rising, the confirmed death toll had topped 130 people, with some 5,000 others wounded and 250,000 people displaced; countless other people are still missing. This in a country in which hosts the largest number of refugees in the world and was already on the brink of economic devastation which has been exacerbated by the pandemic. In addition, the area of the explosion is where the majority of food stores were held, leading speculation that food shortages will severely impact the population.
Endless Medical Advantage was co-founded by providers who have passion and dedication to the communities they serve. They have been supporting the refugee communities in the Beqaa Valley with medical care and supplies. They are on the ground in Beirut now with their mobile medical unit providing healthcare to those injured and in need, as well as working on assisting with supply distribution. We are raising funds for EMA to support their efforts.
