Rohingya Humanitarian Crisis
"Some of the Rohingya women, who come for delivery, are without food for days, lack proper clothes, and have no money for other needs . . . Many of them have delivered babies on the roadside" – AlJazeera: Midwives offer lifeline to pregnant Rohingya
Among the most urgent humanitarian crises in the world, the Rohingya Crisis been growing for years as the Burmese military has targeted the Rohingya tribespeople (a persecuted Muslim minority) for ethnic cleansing. In the past month this crisis has exploded to epic proportions, as the military has torched over 60% of the tribe's villages to the ground, raping women and killing children indiscriminately. Over 500,000 individuals have fled to Bangladesh seeking shelter. The majority of these refugees are women and children.

With almost no access to healthcare, they are desperately in need of skilled care to deliver babies, attend to pregnant women, and treat the multiple injuries and health issues they arrive with. Our partners on the ground are finding thousands of pregnant women in the camps themselves.
Our Work: We are partnering with Hope Foundation for Women and Children in Bangladesh, an amazing organization founded by Dr. Iftikher Mahmood of Bangladesh. Through his hard work he has established a hospital over the past several years, and they are now working tirelessly to set up field camps providing basic healthcare needs to the refugee population. Global Midwife Response is recruiting midwives to assist HOPE in setting up these field clinics and providing maternal, newborn, and women's healthcare. Join us today to bring basic women's rights and healthcare to the Rohingya Crisis.
