Midwife Pilgrim is now Global Midwife Response.  The pandemic gave all of us at Midwife Pilgrim a chance to reflect and focus on what our vision is for low resource and disaster reproductive health response.  A new name in this new world seems appropriate.  We look forward to serving you under our new banner.  Please be patient as we update our website and social media.

GLOBAL MIDWIFE RESPONSE : CARE IN CRISIS

Skilled midwifery care in crisis and disasters around the world
Essential emergency services for women, infants, and families
Building knowledge in women’s healthcare for a strong community

"Women and infants are among the most vulnerable in times of war and persecution. We see them arrive sick, pregnant, in labor or with babes in arms; with untreated medical conditions, hungry, and traumatized – urgently in need of skilled, compassionate healthcare."

Global Midwife Response is a US-based NGO dedicated to serving communities in crisis with skilled, compassionate midwifery care.
With a roster of skilled midwives who are willing to serve in times of need we can begin to establish the foundations for sustainable, healthy communities.

OUR MISSION
  • We believe quality health care is a human right, and strive to ensure that communities in crisis and disaster have access to skilled, compassionate women’s health care, that treats women with dignity and respect.
  • We seek strength in partnership, and work jointly with healthcare providers and other organizations to provide specialized training for disaster situations and low-resource communities.
  • We share knowledge, and develop training programs in women’s health for and with relief workers, traditional birth attendants, and community health workers.

WHAT WE DO

CRISIS HEALTHCARE
  • Provide prenatal care, deliveries, postpartum care, newborn care, and gynecology, as well as first aid and transfer to hospitals.
  • Triage new arrivals to refugee camps for emergency needs
  • Coordinate clean water and women’s hygiene supplies projects
  • Establish safe feeding initiatives to support breastfeeding mothers and infants
  • Our active projects support Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, refugees from Syria and elsewhere in the camps of Greece, and a birth center in Kenya for women in the slums of Nairobi.
WOMEN'S HEALTH TRAINING
  • Support local health workers and relief workers with training on reducing maternal and infant mortality, supporting survivors of sexual violence, and addressing reproductive health needs.
  • Education of global midwives to prepare for low resource and disaster midwifery. These trainings include Helping Babies Survive and Helping Mothers Survive Master trainings and other topics pertinent to this work.  We do this through our Mentorship Program as well as through sponsored workshops in your area.
PARTNERSHIPS
  • Plan and partner with local & international NGOs to evaluate women’s health capacity and coverage, identify urgent needs, and provide health care for refugees.
  • Partner organizations include: United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR), Doctors Without Borders, Sisters in Health, Refugee Aid, Praksis, Lighthouse Rescue, Health Point Project, Hellenic Center for Disease Control & Prevention, Women and Health Alliance International, HOPE Foundation for Women and Children in Bangladesh
