Global Midwifery Essentials (Part 1) will cover topics such as:
ESSENTIAL NEWBORN CARE is comprehensive, two-part training developed by the WHO and other partners to further enhance Helping Babies Survive programming. ENC consists of:
ESSENTIAL NEWBORN CARE 1 (ENC 1)
Focuses on immediate care and the first 60 minutes after birth. Helping Babies Breathe is a core component of ENC 1.
ESSENTIAL NEWBORN CARE 2 (ENC 2)
Focuses on care after the first hour to the first month of life, covering Essential Care for Every Baby and Essential Care for Small Babies content (for those familiar with Helping Babies Survive programming), ensuring best practices to keep all babies healthy from time of birth to discharge from the facility.
Additionally, the needs of preterm and low birthweight babies including alternative feeding methods and nasogastric placement are taught.
Helping Mothers Survive (HMS) is a suite of hands-on, simulation-based learning modules designed by JHPIEGO in collaboration with global partners, to be delivered at the job site to build the capacity of the health work force. The goal of HMS is to improve and sustain the critical sills of midwives, nurses, physicians, and those who assist them to care for women during pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
HMS consists of several modules. This course will be focusing on the following two programs:
BLEEDING AFTER BIRTH COMPLETE (BABC) aims to build skills around team communication, active management of the third stage of labor, and early detection and basic management to reduce maternal deaths caused by post-partum hemorrhage.
PRE-ECLAMPSIA & ECLAMPSIA (PE&E) addresses the second leading cause of maternal mortality globally. Key content in the module includes correct assessment and classification of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, administration of loading and maintenance does of magnesium sulfate and antihypertensive medications, and management of convulsions.
Full registration fee includes your own NeoNatalie Complete and MamaNatalie, necessary simulators to have as you begin to teach this course to others. Tea, snack and lunch will also be provided.

- How to prepare for deployment for long term and disaster midwifery
- Resources for when you are in the field
